Our first Heavy Duty Zero Emission Trucking project uses Innovate BC’s Integrated Marketplace test bed at the Port of Prince Rupert to test two Class 8 drayage trucks on the Ridley-Fairview Connector Road. This private access road is perfect for testing zero and low emission technologies aimed at decarbonizing the supply chain. Supported by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, this project reduces emissions and de-risks the adoption of new clean technologies in the transportation and logistics sector.
Key partners:
The two Class 8 trucks include a Daimler eCascadia battery-electric truck, modified to meet port hauling weight requirements, and a retrofit hydrogen-diesel co-combustion Western Star. These will be tested on short-haul drayage routes.
This project aims to de-risk the adoption of innovative technologies by collecting and sharing performance data. Insights into the total cost of ownership, range, capacity, and capability of these vehicles will be made publicly available to assist industry decision-making regarding low emission technologies and supporting infrastructure.
Stay tuned for more updates as we advance this groundbreaking project! Innovate BC supports the local innovation ecosystem through programs like For the Long Haul, addressing challenges such as competitiveness, efficiency, and decarbonization, and providing resources and funding to foster innovative solutions and help British Columbia achieve clean and inclusive growth.
